Skylight Contractor — Raynham, MA
More Natural Light. Better Ventilation. Greater Comfort.
A well-installed skylight transforms a room. Natural light improves mood, reduces reliance on artificial lighting, and makes spaces feel larger and more connected to the outdoors. For Massachusetts homes — many of which are dark in winter and rely heavily on heating — skylights and sun tunnels are one of the most effective ways to bring warmth and light into the spaces that need it most.
A-American Remodeling Co, Inc. installs and repairs skylights across Plymouth County, Bristol County, and the South Shore. Every installation includes permit coordination, structural framing work, proper low-slope flashing, and interior drywall finishing — handled by a single crew from start to finish.

Why Add a Skylight
What a Properly Installed Skylight Does for Your Home
Beyond the visual impact, skylights deliver measurable benefits that affect energy costs, indoor air quality, and how your home feels year-round — especially in Southeastern Massachusetts where winters are long and natural light is limited.
Maximizes Natural Daylight
A well-positioned skylight delivers up to three times more light than a vertical window of the same size. Dark rooms, north-facing spaces, and interior hallways can be completely transformed.
Improves Ventilation
Vented skylights create a natural convection stack — hot air rises and exits through the skylight, drawing cooler air in from lower openings. Ideal for kitchens, bathrooms, and any room with moisture buildup.
Improves Energy Efficiency
Modern skylights with Low-E glass coatings block UV rays while allowing visible light through, reducing solar heat gain in summer and improving insulation in winter. Solar-powered venting models require no electrical wiring.
Enhances Mood & Well-Being
Natural light exposure is directly linked to reduced seasonal depression — particularly relevant in Massachusetts winters. Rooms with skylights consistently score higher in occupant satisfaction and perceived comfort.
Adds Value to Your Home
Quality skylights from established manufacturers boost perceived home value and curb appeal at resale. Properly flashed and maintained skylights are an asset, not a liability.
Reduces Mold Risk
Vented skylights reduce indoor humidity — a critical benefit in tight, well-insulated New England homes where trapped moisture leads to mold growth in attic spaces and bathroom ceilings.
Making the Right Choice
Skylight vs. Sun Tunnel — Which Is Right for Your Space?
Neither option is universally better — the right choice depends entirely on your space, budget, and goals. Here's how they compare for Massachusetts homes:
Traditional Skylights
Full Light + Views- Sky view and dramatic ambient light
- Venting models for fresh air circulation
- Best for kitchens, living rooms, bedrooms
- Solar blinds available for light control
- $1,600 – $5,400 fully installed
Sun Tunnels
Budget-Friendly- Soft diffused light — no sky view
- Routes around attic obstacles
- Best for hallways, closets, bathrooms
- Minimal roof modification required
- $800 – $2,500 fully installed
Skylight costs vary based on type, size, glazing, and whether it's a fresh cut-in or replacement. A-American provides free written estimates — no commitment required, no hidden fees.
Skylight Repair
Common Skylight Problems We Fix
The most common skylight issue is water leaking — but it's rarely the glass itself that fails. Most skylight leaks trace back to flashing, sealant, or condensation issues that are straightforward to resolve when caught early.
Active Leaking
Usually caused by degraded rubber gaskets, failed perimeter flashing, ice dam infiltration, or worn sealant — not the glass unit itself.
Fogged Glass
Condensation between panes means the thermal seal has failed. The glass unit needs replacement, but the frame and flashing may be salvageable.
Ice Dam Damage
Massachusetts winters push ice under skylight perimeter seals. We repair infiltration damage and install proper ice and water shield around the curb.
Minor skylight repairs run $200–$800. Full unit replacements including frame and labor typically run $1,200–$4,500 — and homeowners insurance may cover damage caused by storm events.

Our Process
The A-American Skylight Installation Process
Skylight installation is one of the most detail-sensitive projects in residential roofing. Every step below matters — skip any of them and you get a leak.
Free Estimate
We assess your roof structure, pitch, rafter spacing, and interior ceiling to determine the right skylight type, position, and framing approach.
Permit Application
Required in Massachusetts for any structural roof modification. We file with your local building department before scheduling.
Roof Opening
We cut the opening, install doubled headers and trimmer rafters to maintain structural integrity around the opening.
Curb or Deck Mount
Curb constructed for flat-mount or low-pitch applications. Deck-mounted installations set directly into the roof plane for sloped roofs.
Flashing System
Step flashing, counter flashing, and ice and water shield installed around the full perimeter — the most critical leak-prevention step.
Unit Installation
Skylight unit set, sealed, and secured per manufacturer specs. Solar or electric wiring routed for venting models.
Interior Light Shaft
Drywall shaft framed and finished between the ceiling and the roof deck for recessed ceiling installations.
Final Inspection
Building inspector sign-off coordinated. Full operational check on venting units. Complete cleanup inside and out.
